Cautiously Optimistic!

We have had issues with Jadyn going to bed since Maya was born. She comes up with different things she needs (drink, potty, asking questions, etc). I have been trying to tighten up her bedtime routine and limit these things. However, 3 nights ago was the worst.

We put her to bed at 8:30 and she did not go to bed until close to 11. I decided that night to start taking things away from her. She lost the right to sleep with her ladybug, puppy, teddy bear, pink blanket, and even her sacred green blanket (which she is very attached to). I even took away her treat for the next day (she gets a treat if she eats well for dinner). I joked with Nathan that I had nothing left to take away....except her sheets and pillow!

She just kept coming out of her room. At one point (I think at 10:30), I was holding her door closed so she couldn't come out. She is so dramatic she was saying "Please don't lock my door Mommy....Mommy, I love you...Mommy I want you...please don't lock my door".

Well, I think she learned her lesson. For the past two nights she has not come out/cried out to us at all. I think she wants to keep her comfort items!

Oh good. My "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" book recommends not talking to "the child" when she comes out of her room and just put her back in bed every time she comes out. The idea is that she gets reinforced for coming out when she gets attention and if she gets no attention, she will lose interest.

That's one thing I miss about the crib. I think most kids have a hard time staying in bed when they first get a big-kid bed. Since Jadyn didn't, now she's making up for it! Having a new sibling is bound to cause a few conflicts.
