Pumpkin's Pumpkin lunch

For lunch, Jadyn had a pumkin sandwich (using a cookie cutter),

carrots, pumpkin smiles (mandarin oranges), and pumpkin cottage cheese. She had fun putting the dye in the cottage cheese, but then she wouldn't eat it. I can't blame her. I tried to finish it for her and was kind of grossed out too!

Trick-or-Treating at the nursing home

This morning I took the girls trick-or-treating at the nursing home with our MOPS group. I wanted Jadyn to experience being around older people. She was very polite and friendly to all the residents. I was trying to explain to her how they enjoyed our visit because they get lonely. I think she understood. I hope to take her back soon. She brings so much joy to our lives. I know the residents love to see children and she could bring them some joy as well.

This is her little friend Brynn in the picture with the girls. Jadyn loves Brynn and was trying to hold her hand while they were trick-or-treating!

Jadyn didn't even try to eat any more candy (I let her have 2 tootsie rolls while we were there) on the way home. If she would only always remain this obedient...even when she is a teenager!

Maya will be 3 months old tomorrow!

Maya is getting so big. She is wearing a 6 months size outfit in this picture. It is a little bit big, but not by much! She is still such a sweetie and she brings me so much joy.

Pumpkin Carving Her Pumpkin!

Getting Started:

The fun part: Sawing with the special knife

Finished product: Look how fun it is to take the lid off/on!

Jadyn loved carving pumpkins for Family Home Evening. She still would not touch the inside guts and made Nathan scoop it all. She said she didn't want to get her hands messy! She loved using the little saw and was actually very good at it.

Maya didn't make it for the family event. She went to bed early and Nathan and Jadyn carved her pumpkin for her!

Two little monkeys

We took the girls Trick or Treating at the mall this morning. Jadyn loved it and Maya slept the whole time. Then, this evening was our ward's Trunk-or-Treat. Jadyn told us on the way home, "I love candy. Lots of people gave me candy. They must love me!". She continues to crack us up everyday.

Apple Orchard

This morning we met some of the ladies from our ward at the apple orchard. Jadyn's favorite part was the tractor ride. It was freezing and the tractor exhaust was in our faces, but I guess it was thrilling for a toddler!

I was a little bummed because we didn't get to actually pick off the trees. I guess because it is so late in the season they had to pick them already and put them in the bins. I could have picked from a bin in a warm grocery store!

Jadyn also enjoyed getting a little apple sipper cup at the store there with some money that Grandma Julie gave her. She has been drinking out of it all day and actually drank a full glass of milk and asked for more. If I only knew that the trick to getting her to drink liquids was a cute little apple bottle, I would have purchased one long ago!

Pumpkin Patch

Jadyn loved visiting the pumpkin patch this year. She picked out a pumpkin for herself and Maya. It was a little chilly out there so we didn't stay too long. Maya slept in the sling the whole time.

I noticed after we came home that one of the pumpkins has a "disease" (for lack of a better term) on the bottom. Oh well, maybe Gene the Pumpkin Man is not all it is cracked up to be!

Jadyn's favorite song

She usually will do the actions. She was just ready for bed and too interested in getting her socks off!

I've given up!

I really can't stop her from her thumb...and it obviously makes her happy. Just the idea of sucking her thumb is getting her excited in this picture!

Update on Jadyn's bedtime antics

Well, since that night that I took away everything from Jadyn, she has not come out of her room for naps/bedtime. It is like I have a new, very obedient about bedtime child. I guess it was worth those agonizing hours of her being upset to have this result.

Funny story: The other night I had to go to Young Women Activities. Nathan was havinng a hard time getting Maya to go to sleep. He was rocking Maya in her room and he asked Jadyn to read books in her room. She kept peeking in to see how it was going. One time she said, "Daddy, Maya having a hard time going to sleep?" After he said yes, she said, "Oh, I hope we don't have to take her blankie away" I am still cracking up about this!

Jadyn's best friend

Today Jadyn had a chance to play with Stella. When Stella walked in, she said "You are so tall Stella, you are such a big girl" (granted we haven't seen Stella in awhile and she probably has grown since then...but it was just funny). Then, as they were heading downstairs to play together Jadyn said, "I missed you so much Stella". She has always connected with Stella and I guess she hates living farther away from her now! They are so cute together.

Houston, we have a problem!

Maya has discovered her hands...and more specifically her right thumb. I really don't want a thumb sucker. She doesn't currently take a pacifier (she hasn't needed one), but I am debating whether to introduce one to try to get her to give up on the thumb!

Cautiously Optimistic!

We have had issues with Jadyn going to bed since Maya was born. She comes up with different things she needs (drink, potty, asking questions, etc). I have been trying to tighten up her bedtime routine and limit these things. However, 3 nights ago was the worst.

We put her to bed at 8:30 and she did not go to bed until close to 11. I decided that night to start taking things away from her. She lost the right to sleep with her ladybug, puppy, teddy bear, pink blanket, and even her sacred green blanket (which she is very attached to). I even took away her treat for the next day (she gets a treat if she eats well for dinner). I joked with Nathan that I had nothing left to take away....except her sheets and pillow!

She just kept coming out of her room. At one point (I think at 10:30), I was holding her door closed so she couldn't come out. She is so dramatic she was saying "Please don't lock my door Mommy....Mommy, I love you...Mommy I want you...please don't lock my door".

Well, I think she learned her lesson. For the past two nights she has not come out/cried out to us at all. I think she wants to keep her comfort items!

The Princess Chamber

This is where the princess sleeps. She inherited all of Jadyn's old bedding (lavendar/sage). She seems to enjoy her room. She will take long naps in her bed and has been sleeping until 3-4 am before waking to eat at night!

Pumpkin's Patch

This is where Pumpkin dwells. She picked her colors (Pink/Brown) for her new room when we moved to the house. Eventually, we would like to paint...we will probably get around to it when she is ready to move out!

Wise words from a little one!

Maya loves to chat with us. Unfortunately, she was too excited with the camera to really talk to me. I will have to capture her conversations when Nathan can video tape me talking to her!

Guess what Mom?

Today we went to MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers). This is our second time going and Jadyn loved it again. She goes to a "nursery" for 2 hours while I enjoy some time with other moms. I was so surprised last time that she didn't bat an eyelash when I left her with strangers. She has really grown-up so much lately.

When we were driving home, she said "Guess what, Mom?". "The lady was wearing an orange shirt today cause her blue shirt is dirty". I just laughed and then asked her if she asked the lady this. "No, well cause she was wearing orange"...as if that means the blue shirt must be dirty! How she remembers what color shirt the lady wore 3 weeks ago baffles my mind. But now I do recall that she did have a bright blue shirt last time.

Jadyn is so observant. If I move anything in the house, she notices right away. You can't get anything past this kid!

Princess Stats

Maya had her 2 month doctor's appointment today. She is 11 lbs 8 oz and 23" long. Jadyn was 11 lbs 1 oz at this age. Maya had to get 5 shots. It is so hard to watch the girls get shots...I get teary eyed every time. She is so sweet that eventhough she was in pain she cooed at me and gave me a big smile. She also laughed for the first time in the waiting area. She is such a happy girl.

While we were there, I asked the doctor about the flu vaccine for Jadyn. She said we could get the flumist (a nasal spray) for her and we could do it today. Jadyn didn't mind it at all. I told Nathan he should get the mist this year since he is deathly afraid of needles!

Mama's big helper

Jadyn loves to help me. The other day I taught her how to fold the washcloths. She was so thrilled that she could do it that she took all the folded ones out of the drawer and decided they needed to be refolded. She then tried to learn how to fold socks. She got frustrated and said, "I still learning how fold socks...can't do it yet". She keeps me laughing everyday.

Thanks Aunt Meliss!

Aunt Melissa made these tutus for the girls. Jadyn loves them and even asked to wear it out to check the mail. One of our neighbors thought "my little helper" was cute in her outfit!

New Blog!

I decided to start a new blog for the girls. I will be posting more about Pumpkin (Jadyn) and Princess (Maya) on this blog. I did not want to clutter my family blog (steinbergfamily.blogspot.com) with too many posts about the girls. Plus, they deserve their own website!
