Merry Christmas from A Pumpkin and a Princess

"Girls, let's get a cute picture of you in your Christmas dresses before church."

"Maya, you love your sister?"

"Jadyn you love Maya too?"

"Okay girls, I am glad you love each other, but please try to look at Mommy and smile. We need to leave for church"

Merry Christmas from these two little cuties!

Ringing Bells for Salvation Army

We had the opportunity to volunteer again this year for the Salvation Army. Jadyn was so excited to be able to ring the bells again. She would mention it every time we walked past a kettle this Christmas season. Often, she would excitedly tell strangers in the store that she was going to ring the bells again this year. Maya made more of a contribution this year as well. Last year it was so cold and she was only 5 months old so she spent most of the time indoors. This year, she sat content in her stroller and even helped ring the bell a few times.

Our friends joined us for part of the time this year. It was a great addition because we all sang Christmas carols together. Needless to say, after they left and I took the girls inside to warm up for awhile, Nathan said it was a tough crowd! He tried singing at first by himself (what a trooper!), but realized a one man chorus was not going to cut it.

We enjoyed having the opportunity to serve and hope to be able to do this every year together as a family.

Jam packed week

We have had a busy week of appointments since Jadyn just turned 4.

Monday: KRESA came over to evaluate the girls. They are both doing well. Claudia was impressed with how advanced Jadyn is (especially verbally :). Now I need to find what I am going to do for her in terms of school for next year.

Tuesday: Jadyn's dentist appointment. She (and we!) are brushing well they just mentioned that she has deep grooves on her bottom molars. They are recommending sealants. The only problem is our insurance will not cover sealants for baby teeth. Hmmm....still deciding if I want to fork out the $92.

Wednesday: Jadyn's 4 year well-child doctor's visit. She is 32.5 lbs and 38 3/4 inches. She is 25% for both categories. She got four shots. It was so much more difficult to watch her get them as an older child. Wish someone else could step in for those moments.

Today: Jadyn's 4 year portraits. Here is a link to the pictures: (you will need to put in my first and last name in all caps in the Customer Name box)

Tomorrow: Preschool Christmas Party here at our house. Jadyn loves playing with her preschool friends.

Rage Like a Dog?

Well, we are not 100% sure, but we are leaning towards naming this little boy Caleb Michael. However, I am a little concerned about Caleb meaning "Rage like a Dog" on a few websites. But, then I found this explanation: http://www.behindthename.com/bb/arcview.php?id=175074&board=gen

So, I feel much better with the meaning of "whole hearted" or "faithful one". So, we will have:

Jadyn ("God has heard") Nicole ("Victory of the people")
Maya ("A princess") Elisabeth ("Consecrated to God")
Caleb ("Whole-hearted") Michael ("Who is like God?")

I was glad to see that Caleb received the most "Yes" votes on our name poll since it is our top name. However, we are still keeping a couple others (Bennett, Gabe, Reid) in the running for now.

The pumpkin is 4!

Jadyn is turning 4 today. It is hard to believe it has been four years with her. But at the same time, I can't really remember life without her. She is a very unique child and I am blessed to be able to be her mother.

We celebrated her birthday last night. She, of course, wanted a Princess cake. We ended up with a Snow Sprinkle Princess....because Mom didn't want to break out the cake decorating tips. I think she turned out pretty well for minimal effort.

She loved the princess cake:

Jadyn hardly wanted to eat dinner because she was too excited to open presents. After learning she had to finish dinner first, that prompted her (with a little coaxing from Alicia!) to finish.

The birthday girl excited to open the presents:

The gifts:

Jadyn got a Snow White DVD and Snow White dress-up kit from us, a princess dress-up box from Grandma Ann & Papa, a tunnel/tent combo and money from Grandma Julie, and a princess necklace, Strawberry Shortcake activity book and princess crayons from Derek & Alicia. She loved everything!

Strangely, Jadyn did not want to come near the candles this year. She would not even attempt to blow them out so Mom had to.

Here are some facts about Jadyn as she turns 4:
1. Sometimes I think she is actually turning 24! She is such a little adult most times.
2. She is a very considerate child. She is always thinking about what others need.
3. She is all about princesses!
4. She still naps most days. (I know I am lucky!)
5. She loves special time with me after Maya goes to sleep and it is just us.
6. She is an excellent eater and always asks why she can't have a fruit/vegetable if we go out to dinner and they don't offer one.
7. She is a very social child. She always asks what we are doing for the day as soon as she wakes up. If we have no plans, she tries to convince me to invite someone over.
8. She loves Primary. She loves to sing the primary songs.
9. She is becoming much more independent and is willing to try most things by herself now. Big change!
10. She has an extremely kind heart. I hope she always keeps this characteristic.

Happy Birthday Jadyn! We love you more than words can express.

Maya is 16 Months!

Here is Maya at 16 Months:

Here are some current facts about Maya:
1. She is a delightful child.
2. She is super sweet, but also VERY fiesty about certain things.
3. She loves to give hugs and big wet kisses.
4. She loves her Daddy. Yesterday in church she yelled "Dad" as he walked up to the podium to give a prayer.
5. She can't stand to be away from Jadyn and follows her everywhere. Recently Jadyn has become big about modesty with dressing/going to the bathroom and Maya cries whenever she closes the door.
6. She is a big flirt. She gives cheesy grins, little hand waves, and anything else she needs to in order to get anyone to smile at her!
7. She is a terrible eater. If you pumped her stomach it would be full of raisins, crackers, and cereal.
8. She is finally walking! Watch out world.
9. She is still extremely easy to put to bed for naps/nighttime.
10. She loves splashing in the bath and gets me soaked everytime.

Let the voting begin.

There is a link on the upper right to a namelist for our son. These are our current possibilities for his name. Some we like more than others, but I decided to throw the whole list up there to get opinions. You can vote a thumbs up or thumbs down for each name. It is anonymous so don't worry about offending me...just vote whether you like or hate the name. If you don't like any of them, feel free to suggest alternatives.

The middle name will most likely be Michael.

Disclaimer: this is not a democracy. We get final say because we are the parents :)

Christmas Decorating

Jadyn loved looking at the ornaments and getting excited about putting them on the tree. She has to wait awhile because Nathan is a perfectionist with the lights and it takes him a good hour to put them on.

Maya decided to do what she does best and get into things while we decorated. One of her favorite things to do lately is get into the lazy susan and lick all the cans. Even when I tell her "Maya don't lick the cans" she gives me this wicked grin and licks them. Funny kid.

Our girls under the tree:

Adding Daddy in for a picture...although Maya was done. Jadyn somehow remember a pose she did last year and was mimicking it. She said, "See Mom, I am looking up at the tree"

Jadyn, 2008:

Chicago fun

The Saturday after Thanksgiving we had the chance to go to Chicago. Nathan and I went to the temple for an early session and Grandma and Aunt Sarah brought the girls up to meet us afterwards. After touring Jeremy & Jessi's place, we headed downtown to eat at the Rainforest cafe. The scenery was neat there...although Jadyn was scared of a fake snake that came down from the ceiling. After lunch, we hit a few stores on the Magnificent Mile and then headed home.

Here is Jadyn in Aunt Sarah's fashion glasses:

Daddy and Jadyn in the Rainforest Cafe:

Maya actually eating for a change. I guess she likes fried foods....too bad I don't make those for her!

The Parker Family:

The whole crew. Notice how Maya is fully committed to her thumb...much to my dismay!

Aunt Jessi and Jadyn decided to get a photo with the cop on a horse. Jessi backed up right into the horse's head. It was hilarious.

Jadyn absolutely adored Uncle Jeremy and Aunt Jessi. She followed them around everywhere.

Thanksgiving Day

We had another great Thanksgiving at Grandma Julie's house. I did not get very many pictures because my camera batteries died. So, here is what you get!

Maya pretending she is happy with Thanksgiving Dinner. In all reality, she ate nothing because she was too tired and is a picky eater. I put her down for a nap while the rest of us ate in peace.

Jadyn playing with Sarah's best friend's child. Jadyn love playing with Ileanna (sp?).

Jadyn loves Aunt Sarah :)

Daddy and Maya on turkey day!

Grandma and the girls. They sure love Grandma!

The results are in...

I guess I will have to change the blog title to A Pumpkin and a Princess and a little Prince.

We are most likely having a boy. The ultrasound technician said she was 99.9% sure. So, Aunt Sarah, you are getting your wish of another nephew.

Nathan and I are excited, but a little nervous. A boy....oh boy!

Unexpected ultrasound: What are we having?

This morning I had a routine OB appointment. However, the doctor could not find the baby's heartbeat after searching for 5-10 minutes (although it felt like an eternity). So, she sent me over to the ultrasound technician that they have there in the office. (That sure is a convenient feature of this new OB's office). I was so worried and wishing Nathan were there with me. With both of the girls and at my last appointment with this baby, they have always been able to find the heartbeat right away without even having to search at all.

Fortunately, we saw the baby's little heart beating as soon as the ultrasound technician started. The baby is fine....just very active. So, that is probably why the doctor could not hear the heartbeat on the doppler. The technician said everything looked fine and I am measuring right on schedule (15 weeks 2 days).

So, the ultrasound technician asked if we wanted to know the gender. I said yes, but not without my husband there. So, she had me look away from the screen and put those ultrasound pictures in an envelope. So, a little envelope on the counter labeled "Gender" is waiting to be opened as soon as Nathan gets home.

So, take your guesses. What are we having?

My Silly Girl :)

Jadyn came to me the other day with her pajamas stuffed with play food. I started cracking up and grabbed the camera.

Utah fun

Gorgeous Girls: (Jadyn loved playing with Taylor. Taylor is such a good cousin and example to her.)

Playing Rock Band:

I think Jadyn's favorite part was hitting the sticks together and counting down before the song began.

Maya chillin in the kitchen and look cute even in pajamas.

Carter and Jadyn. These two played remarkably well together.

They were so silly together. Jadyn kept saying, "Laugh for no reason Carter". They got each other laughing so hard.

Can't you tell that Aunt Megan is loved?!!

More jammin to Rock Band:

Maya loved Uncle Mikey. She loved cuddling with him.

Halloween :)

The girls at the Trunk or Treat. Jadyn's monkey costume is a repeat from last year. Maya's Nemo costume is one of Jadyn's old costumes. My neice Taylor looked so cute as a little fairy.

People kept offering to give Maya candy and I said "That's okay, Mom doesn't need the candy!"

Maya thought trick or treating was overrated and just resorted to her thumb.

Grandma with the girls:

The best part about Halloween: the candy trading!

These are just some of Taylor's cousins that we went trick-or-treating with. We wished we lived closer to our cousins.

This little monkey loved the joy of trick-or-treating!

Taylor and her cousin Halle were so good about helping Jadyn go house to house. They ended up getting several full size candy bars.

Little Nemo (and Mom!) got tired of trick-or-treating early and went back to get warm.
