RIP Abby

Well, Jadyn's fish lived 6 days.  When I came down and saw she was not moving, I was dreading telling Jadyn.  All Jadyn said was "Oh, can I get a new one?"  She certainly was not as torn up as I thought she would be.

So, today we went and got 3 new fish.  At .19 a piece, I figured we would get one for each kid.  I was hoping they would last awhile so I would not have to keep going to the store.  Unfortunately, Abby (Jadyn chose the same name) and Bennett's fish (did not have a chance to name) went belly up within an hour of being at home.  Maya's fish (named Strawberry) is still alive....for now.  Even Maya said her her prayer, "Thank you my fishy not dead yet".

We think our house is just too cold for the fish.  I keep it at a balmy 67 degrees.  Nathan is trying to get me to turn up the heat (has been all winter :)  Sorry Charlie, it is staying at 67.  We might try to spring for the next fish up next go around :)

you should try a guppy fish, this is what we have and the thing just wont die, even when Ashleigh forgets to feed it, and we too keep our house at 68 degrees.

Do you put it in day old water? Maya's prayer was so cute!

Megan,

We let the water sit with the chlorine drops for 1/2 day or so like it says. Should we be waiting a full day?

We woke up to the last fish dead this morning. Maya said "My fishy died Momma" She was not really sad so it was cute to hear her say it over and over.

This is so sad and so hilarious at the same time! I am laughing, but I am sorry for the loss. Way to make the effort on teaching children responsibility and compassion by taking care of a pet - if only those darn fish were just a little more robust. I keep giggling thinking of Maya's gratitude for the remaining fish in her prayer - is that so wrong of me!? Sorry to hear Strawberry gave up as well.

I have found that my kids accept death pretty easily. Sounds like your kids do too. Are you going to keep getting fish? And what day is Nathan graduating? I am SO happy for him and YOU!

Sara,

We are currently on Abby III (Strawberry II already passed away). I told the girls this is the last fish. Jadyn is trying to get me to let her have a duck next!

Nathan's last day of class is March 19th, last project is due March 23rd (and Ann & Gordon come that day), and he graduates March 26th. We can't wait!
