A couple of weeks ago, I had Bennett evaluated to see if he is on track for his age. I have been concerned about his speech because he gets very frustrated at not being able to communicate well. As I guessed, is on track for fine motor, gross motor, etc (he is actually tested above his age)....everything except for his speech. His speech tested at 14 months (he is 21 months). So, we will have a speech therapist come to our home twice a month for a half hour to work with him. It is a free service (finally my tax dollars pay off!). She said she is not concerned because the words he says are very clear and she thinks he will start communicating more very soon.
Surprisingly enough, since the appointment Bennett's speech has taken off. He has probably said 25+ new words in the last week and a half and tries to mimic us often. It is so fun to hear him talk. He is such a sweet boy and even the way he says his little words are sweet :)
Another concern of mine is that he is such a picky eater. Unlike Maya (who has always been a picky eater), Bennett used to eat well when he was a baby. Now that he is a toddler, he is so picky and refuses to eat much of the time. I rarely can get him to eat any meat. However, he loves to dip....he loves ranch, ketchup, syrup, etc. The other night I thought maybe I would try to make meatloaf (since this is an acceptable food to dip ketchup in). It was a hit and he downed it and begged for 3 servings. Here is a picture of him inhaling the meatloaf. Sorry for the blurry camera phone picture :)

I think that the speech is a boy thing. We have someone coming as well. Brig loves it and she tells us things to work on but I have heard so many people needing to do this for boys their age. Brig is the same way about eating. We never know when he will eat meat. When I went to his two year appointment I was waiting for the "you need to try harder speech", but besides shoving it down I am not sure what else to do. We keep offering it and sometimes he eats. The doctor said that at this age they want to control something and what they eat is something they have more control over. Keep offering things and it will work out. I was surprised and felt like a better parent after that. Good luck the kids are cute and you guys are missed!
I thought we needed a speech therapist for Bryce too but come to find out, he's fine & at the time was just lazy. Actually, he can still be pretty lazy now. I have to frequently remind him to use words. Communication must not be a guy thing.
